Who we are

FAULTLINE ("we", "the station") publishes video game reviews, news and editorial at fault-line.online. You can reach us at [email protected]. We are an editorial outlet, not a storefront, and we collect as little information as possible to run the site.

The calibration notice (cookies)

When you first arrive, a fixed notice at the bottom of the screen — the "Calibration Notice" — tells you that we use one small piece of local storage. When you select "Zero the needle", we save a single flag in your browser's localStorage under the key fl-calibration-zeroed so the notice does not reappear on every visit.

This flag stays on your own device. It contains no personal information, no identifier, and no tracking value — only the fact that you have seen the notice. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party tracking scripts for profiling. You can clear this flag at any time by clearing your browser's site data, and the notice will simply show again.

Forms and how your submissions are stored

The site has two forms: the "File a Field Report" contact form and "The Sensor Network" newsletter sign-up. When you submit either one, your input is sanitised and appended to a plain text file held on our own web server — field-reports.txt for contact messages and the-network.txt for newsletter addresses. There is no database, and the data lives only on the server that runs this site.

We use these submissions solely to reply to you and, for the newsletter, to send you video game reviews and news that you asked for. Your submissions are stored securely in local server text files and are never sold, shared, or distributed to any third party. The contact form records the name, email, subject and message you provide, plus a timestamp; the newsletter records the email you provide, a timestamp, and the connecting IP address purely to deter abuse.

What we never collect

We do not build advertising profiles, we do not run third-party trackers, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. We ask only for what a form needs to function.

Your choices

You can ask us to remove your field report or unsubscribe you from The Sensor Network at any time by emailing [email protected]. Because the data sits in a simple text file under our control, honouring such a request is straightforward.

Data retention & security

Submissions are retained only as long as they remain useful for correspondence or for the newsletter you subscribed to. The text-file stores are kept outside the publicly served content and are accessible only to the station. While no internet transmission is ever perfectly secure, we keep the data minimal precisely so there is little to expose.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will appear on this page with an updated calibration date above. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
